Songkran 2011

Why stay dry?

Fossil presents: Happy New Year, (mostly)Thai style.

This annual page is back yet again, with kind thanks to Ken who took the time to capture moments for us with a new waterproof camera. This year the weather turned cold and rainy at precisely 10am, just as I was getting ready to start pounding people with water! It stay coolish until the sun came through mid afternoon. The usual, no problem of iced water tossed onto your back as it is normally so hot, did raise a few eyebrows this year! However it really was all in good fun. This year for a change it was a few inebriated Thai's that were being a bit pesky, but otherwise it was once again a great day. If anyone else has any photos to share just drop me a line and I'll be only too happy to put them up here for those less fortunate, or fortunate as the case may be! This year numbers were down compared to previous years, mainly due to the economic downturn affecting everyone, and political problems here in Thailand. Same same last year. However having said that there was just as much frivolity as all previous years.Everyone wishes it would all end quickly so that tourism can get back on track. There are quite a number of photos this time, so be patient. I've included all the pictures that Ken sent me, so some may not make much sense or even be of interest. Some are a bit blurry but put yourself in that situation and you'll see how hard it can be! Anyway, just enjoy.

Happy New Year! Now we are going to drench you with water for the next 7 days. Urk! Actually it's not quite as bad as it used to be, except in certain areas. Love it or hate it Songkran is a time of festive frivolity for Thai's and those visiting or living here. I hope you can get some sense of the happiness and joy that goes on, and if you ever get the chance to experience this festival, whether it be in Pattaya, Bangkok or any other part of the country, please make an effort and experience it at least once in your life.
