Loy Krathong
Beauty and Ceremony
Fossil presents: Loy Krathong 2010 - just lovely.
One of the most admired and liked of all ceremonies or festivals in Thailand is the Loy Krathong festival. It marks the end of the rainy season and homage is paid to the rain gods for (hopefully) a goodly amount of rain for particularly the rice farmers. This year however, there has been several areas that have had extensive flooding and many have lost a whole years worth of crop and of course, income.
One of the other things is the krathong itself onto which you place a stick of incense, a candle and a small coin. This is then placed on to the water at a beach and with your prayers all your bad luck goes out to sea and you start over again. Well I'm not sure all that is completely correct, but you get the idea. If you ever get the chance to be anywhere in Thailand on the 2nd last full moon of the year, it is well worth it.
